In a statement reproduced by the nations news agency KCNA, the information office of the Ministry of National Defense asserted that in the last two months the aggressive joint U.S.-South Korean maneuvers have significantly aggravated the situation in the region.
He recalled that from August 19 to 29, these two countries carried out the Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise on a scale never seen before, mobilizing more than 200 fighter planes and numerous units to respond to chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear attacks.
In this exercise, the largest military training in Asia-Pacific, participated member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the UN Forces Command (composed of US allies at the time of the Korean War, 1950-1953).
He noted that Washington and Seoul also held the Sangryong landing training in August, in which division-scale troops, armored vehicles and more than 80 aircraft and some 40 ships took part.
Also in August, a brigade-level open-air mobility exercise was held five kilometers from the border with the DPRK, with the use of numerous tanks and other military equipment.
