Cuba’s Durand gleans tenth paralympic gold

Paris, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban paratriathlete Omara Durand won her tenth gold medal in Paralympic Games, after being crowned today champion of the 100 meters, category T12, in the current edition of Paris 2024.

Durand, accompanied by her guide Yunior Kindelan, stopped the digital timer at the Stade de France in 11.81 seconds, escorted by Ukrainian Oksana Boturchuk (12.17) and German Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt (12.26), in all cases their best times of the current season.

This was the fourth title for the Cuban in the hectometer event, a distance in which she was also crowned in London 2012 (with 12.00 seconds), Rio 2016 (11.40, current world record) and Tokyo 2020 (11.49).

Ukrainian Boturchuk added her third medal in this event, as she previously won bronze in London 2012 (12.18) and silver in Tokyo (12.03), where she was also preceded by the Cuban sprinter.

Durand and her guide Kindelan are still hopeful of winning a third title in the current summer event in the City of Lights, in the 200 meters distance, which she won in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. If successful again, Durand would be adding her eleventh gold in her Paralympic history, an undeniable feat.
