Central American Torch travels through El Salvador

San Salvador, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) The Central American Torch that commemorates the independence of the region is touring El Salvador after arriving in the country from neighboring Guatemala.

After being received the day before by students and members of the Armed Forces, the “Central American Torch” will travel the Salvadoran territory and then will be delivered to Honduras to continue the tradition that has been celebrated since 1960 in commemoration of the independence of Central America.

The flame arrived at the Las Chinamas border, where Salvadoran students received it from their neighbors as a symbol of the independence of the region, as the fire of “peace and freedom” that will travel throughout the country.

The arrival of the fire of independence was announced by the Ministry of Education in its official account in X, where it stated that the liberating flame will travel the country during the next few days until it reaches Honduras, to continue its journey through Central America.

Central America is celebrating the 203rd anniversary of its independence from Spain and three days ago the fire that travels through the region today was lit in Guatemala by President Bernardo Arévalo.

The signing of the Act of Independence of the region occurred on September 15, 1821, by the Captaincy General of Guatemala then formed by the current countries of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, an act in which they broke ties with the Spanish Empire.
