Juba, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) A South Sudanese court has reportedly convicted eight soldiers for murder and other offenses like abuse and rape.

Colonel Mayiel Riak, acting director of Military Justice for the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), said the institution is committed to promoting accountability among those people working under the military forces if they commit crimes.

“We are ready to bring them to justice for accountabilities, including conflict-related sexual violence against women, girls, and mothers committed by military personnel”, he said.

The General Court Martial examined and reached verdicts on 12 cases, including serious offenses like rape and murder.

Media sources informed that the trial is a sign of South Sudan’s commitment to hold its military personnel accountable, improve discipline, and promote peace and security.
