As the authorities explained in a statement, in this way they will seek to repair “said offense against the nation, as well as the damage caused by the sanctions” issued by Washington, since this is not an isolated event.
The Venezuelan government denounced that the White House has incurred once again in the criminal practice of illegally confiscating an aircraft used by Maduro and argued as justification the sanctions it imposes unilaterally and illegally. “This action reveals that there is no constitutional state in the world that is immune to illegal actions perpetrated against international law,” reflected the Venezuelan government, who criticized the pressures exerted by the United States on the Dominican Republic to get it to serve as an accomplice “in its criminal actions.”
The Bolivarian Republic condemned the fact that the United States creates norms adjusted to its convenience and interests to justify its immoral procedures, while illicit operations such as these expose the falseness of a supposed “rules-based order”, which favors the “law of the strongest”.
Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez disassociated his Government and the Public Ministry from the investigation undertaken by the United States Department of Justice, which concluded with the confiscation of the Venezuelan presidential plane.
Álvarez reported that last May Santo Domingo received a request for international cooperation related to the investigation and in which it was requested to “carry out records of evidence and objects linked to fraud activities, smuggling of illicit goods and money laundering.”
The diplomat told the press that the aircraft was in Dominican territory for maintenance purposes.
This act by the United States was rejected by Cuba, Bolivia and other countries, which classify it as a theft and a violation of International Law.
