The spokeswoman for the Geneva-based Office, Ravina Shamdasani, described the case as “very complex” as she noted the body’s serious concerns about fundamental guarantees.
According to the spokeswoman, the human rights organization is considering publishing a document establishing the parameters within which such situations should be analyzed.
“We are following this case and it is difficult for us to be more specific at this time,” she added, insisting on the need to have access to complete information.
Durov, of Russian origin and also French citizenship, was arrested by the Paris judiciary in late August on charges including terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud and money laundering, among⁵re others, following Telegram’s refusal to cooperate with the country’s authorities.
