Caribbean organization voices support for Venezuela

Bridgetown, Sep 3 (Prensa Latina) The Caribbean Movement for Peace and Integration (CMPI) condemned today the hijacking by the United States government of a plane used by the Venezuelan president.

The Secretary General of the CMPI, David Denny, expressed that the United States is ‘generating the conditions for a war in Latin America and the Caribbean and seizing the natural resources of the region’.

In his statement in social networks, Denny called on the governments of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) nations and the solidarity movement to condemn ‘this reckless action by the U.S. government’.

Nicaragua and Cuba condemned the hijacking by the United States last Monday in the Dominican Republic of the plane used by President Nicolás Maduro, and described it as an act of piracy.

The former president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, also condemned the seizure.

Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez said that ‘neither the Dominican government nor the Public Prosecutor’s Office have participated in the investigation process of the United States regarding the plane’, although the reality is that it was in its territory where the illicit act was committed.

In an official statement the Venezuelan government indicated that ‘it reserves the right to take any legal action to repair this damage (…) as well as all other damages caused by the US criminal policy’.
