Official inconsistency in Uruguay in security matters

Montevideo, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) The presidential candidate for the opposition Frente Amplio, Yamandú Orsi, pointed out today inconsistency in the government regarding citizen security.

In a campaign event in Canelones, where he was mayor, Orsi questioned approaches and expressions from the government regarding the insecurity affecting the population.

While there are high authorities who say that security is getting better, other top government officials, candidates, say that we are facing a security emergency’.

The candidate of the Front Party described as ‘very serious that those who have the power to decide have such contradictory positions’ He added that this reflects the ‘lack of direction’ of the government on the subject.

His vice-presidential running mate, Carolina Cosse, stressed that there are less than 60 days until the October 29 elections and ‘to decide if we want to continue with empty promises’.

Security is the issue of greatest public concern according to polls.

Presidential candidates are presenting programs on this issue, and even the leader of Cabildo Abierto, Guido Manini, proposed a declaration of national emergency on security.
