Reports stated that the flood has affected 11 of the country’s 18 states, destroyed 18,665 homes, and damaged 14,947 others. More than 17,000 people have been affected in some way.
Recent reports link the spread of the cholera epidemic to the rains, the resulting water contamination for human consumption, and the proliferation of mosquitoes that transmit other contagious diseases such as malaria, dengue, and yellow fever.
The country’s climate situation is exacerbating a national crisis caused by a civil war resulting from a power struggle between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, president of the Sovereign Transitional Council (STC), and General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In addition to devastation, the Sudanese conflict has so far resulted in some 15,000 deaths, an unspecified but high number of injured, and the forced uprooting of some 11 million people, the largest refugee crisis of modern times, the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) informed.
