“This September 2, more than one million 600 thousand students of General Education are back to classrooms with the start of a new School Year in Cuba,’ Lazo wrote on social network X.
“The joy of the reunion between students and teachers, and of continuing their preparation, characterizes this day”, he assured.
Besides the head of Parliament, other members of the Cuban government also highlighted the beginning of the school term, among them Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.
The incumbent considered the opening of the academic year ‘a great celebration throughout the country’ and stressed that it is a reality despite ‘the limitations caused by the intensified economic, commercial and financial blockade of the U.S. government’.
More than 1,600,000 students of the General Education System arrive in the country’s classrooms on Monday, an enrollment similar to that of recent cycles, in spite of the demographic movement in the island during the last few years.
Around 156 000 teachers and professors are also starting their educational journey, but this figure will grow during the next few months, due to strategies adopted to complete the teaching coverage.
The Education Ministry dedicates the course to the 130th anniversary of the fall in combat of National Hero José Martí and to the 65th anniversary of the transformation process of barracks into schools, led by historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
Higher Education will begin next September 16 for first year students and in mid-October for those students who continue their studies.
