In his X account, while lamenting the sensitive loss of the diplomat, the Cuban minister acknowledged that “Cuba will not forget his role in the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and several Caribbean nations” in 1972 during his term as foreign minister.

As “an important author of regional integration”, Rodriguez described the diplomat, who for many years directed the Regional Negotiation Machinery of the Caribbean Community, as “an important architect of regional integration”.
