The spokeswoman was reacting to the State Department’s statement on the second anniversary of the release of the Xinjiang Human Rights Assessment Report by the UN Human Rights Office.
Mao stressed that Washington’s claims distort reality, mislead public opinion and represent direct interference in the internal affairs of China.
As she explained, the so-called assessment report is a mixture of false information and a political tool fabricated by the West that seeks to use the Xinjiang issue as a tool to contain China.
“It is a completely illegal and invalid document,” the spokeswoman said, recalling that the 51st session of the Human Rights Council rejected the draft resolution on that autonomous region proposed by the U.S. and other Western countries.
Mao emphasized that the residents of Xinjiang are the ones who can best speak about the human rights situation.
“At present, Xinjiang enjoys social stability, economic development and a peaceful life for its people, being in its best period of historical development.
China’s Xinjiang policy is widely supported,” she said.
