Uruguayan anchor decries silence on missing people

Montevideo, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Keeping silent on the cases of missing people in Uruguay is a violation of human rights, said today aspiring senator for Frente Amplio (FA) Blanca Rodríguez.

She so reflected in a post on the social network X , where for the first time she gave a political opinion after officially joining the left-wing group last Tuesday.

Blanca Rodríguez is a well-known communicator in her country, thanks to her TV appearances as anchor in the news program Subrayado.

She became a politician, as herself acknowledged, under guidance by former president José Mujica, leader of the Movimiento de Participación Popular (MPP), one of the political groups affiliated with the FA.

“Where are they? The silence about the fate of our missing people not only punishes relatives and tarnishes the prestige of institutions: it is a violation of human rights that continues to be committed every day. Memory, Truth and Justice,” Rodríguez posted.

Her message coincided with the International Day of the Disappeared and goes hand in hand with other social causes she advocates.
