Ukrainian incursion in Kursk is of US interest, Russia denounces

Moscow, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Ukraine's armed incursion into the Kursk region shows that the United States is committed to escalating tensions with Russia, said the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.

“Prey of its ambition for hegemony and its intention to inflict a strategic defeat on us, Washington does not stop raising the level of tension with Russia and, contrary to what several high-ranking American officers have officially declared, does not try to avoid it. Proof of this are the recent statements by Pentagon authorities and the White House National Security Council,” Zakharova told the Sputnik agency.

On August 22nd, deputy Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh reiterated that Washington allows Ukraine to launch “counterattacks” on Russian soil. Meanwhile, White House National Security Advisor John Kirby refused to answer the question of whether Washington is considering lifting restrictions on the use of missiles supplied to Ukraine by the United States in strikes on Russian territory, alleging that Washington prefers to keep its talks privately with Kiev.

For Zakharova, the United States has become part of the armed conflict around Ukraine and has given Kiev free way for conducting operations in Russian regions. What’s more, Joe Biden’s administration is apparently preparing to make new concessions to Zelensky and leave it up to him to use US-supplied weapons of any kind, particularly deep into Russian territory.

The spokeswoman added that “the policy of escalation by the United States is increasingly provocative. It gives the impression that the ruling class there has lost what is left of common sense and believes that everything is allowed.”

On August 6th, Ukrainian troops began an armed incursion into the province of Kursk and occupied several areas, which by August 22nd caused the displacement of more than 130,000 civilians.

During the hostilities on Kursk, Ukraine has lost up to 7,450 soldiers and hundreds of armored vehicles, including 74 tanks, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
