This body explained in a statement that, in an action coordinated with the Portuguese Tax Authority, last week it seized around 3,600 kilograms of the drug that arrived in the country by sea.
The Police, which did not specify the country of origin of the hallucinogen, indicated that the merchandise was hidden in soy flour containers that entered Portugal a few days before by sea.
They also indicated that within the framework of the same investigation, last June they seized another 2,952 kilograms of drugs in a warehouse in this capital, hidden in containers of fruit legally imported from Latin America by a company not involved in the illegal act.
The source said that Operation Tartarus, led by the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action, prevented the processing of more than 65 million individual doses of cocaine.
Several ultimate luxury cars and important documentation for the investigation, which is still underway, were also seized.
