Maduro calls for calm after sabotage on the electric system

Caracas, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro today called for calm followng the sabotage perpetrated against the national electricity grid that affected almost the entire country.

“As always I am next to the people and on the front line of battle, facing this criminal attack against the National Electric System,” he wrote in Telegram.

“I have said it once and again: calm and good sense, nerves of steel!,” he urged.

“Desperate fascism attacks the people, but together we will overcome this new onslaught. We will always win!” He added.

Authorities denounced this Friday a sabotage against the electric system at approximately 04:40 local time, due to which the country’s 24 states reported total or partial loss of supply.

The Minister of Communication and Information, Freddy Ñañez, said that at 04:45 the entire team of the National Electric Corporation, the Vice Presidency of Public Services and the government were already activated “to overcome this new aggression.” “Those behind the attack want at end to take away peace and tranquility from us with these actions of blind violence that go nowhere, these violent and irresponsible adventures that the only thing they bring is anguish for the people,” the minister said in a video through his Instagram account.

“We lived it in 2019, we know what it cost us in that year and what it has cost us to recover the national electric system since then, and today we are facing it with the anti-coup protocols,” he added.

In his opinion, instead of attending “elections on July 28 (which Maduro won), the option of fascism, of the extreme right is to destroy our institutions, our electoral system and to provoke violence and death in the streets.”

“They failed to achieve it on July 28, 29 and 30, neither with deceit nor with violence, and today they have tried a desperate, blind, persistent action also doomed to fail, to steal peace from Venezuelans,” he stressed.
