The meeting was requested by the delegations of the United Kingdom and Switzerland after the World Food Program reported another Israeli attack on one of its vehicles near a checkpoint of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Wadi Gaza.
The vehicle was shot 10 times through the front windows, although neither of the two staff members inside were hit.
The vehicle was intercepted after escorting a convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian cargo towards the central area of Gaza.
“The incident is a stark reminder of the rapid and continuing reduction of humanitarian space in the Gaza Strip, where increasing violence endangers our ability to provide life-saving assistance,” the agency said in a statement.
A day earlier, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Security and Safety, Gilles Michaud, denounced the IDF’s evacuation orders, which forced more than 200 humanitarian workers to abandon their offices and places of residence in Deir Al Balah at the end of week. “Like the majority of Palestinians in Gaza, we are running out of safe spaces for our own staff,” the official warned.
According to Michaud, the timing could not be worse amid preparations for the anti-polio campaign promoted by the United Nations, which will require the entry of numerous personnel to the Strip.
