Talks give way to agreements among Ecuadoran leftist groups

Quito, Aug 29 (Latin Prensa) Leftist groups in Ecuador today announced eight agreements aimed at strengthening security, economic development, food sovereignty, the fight against corruption and protection to migrants.

The document, signed by the Citizen Revolution Movement (RC), Pachakutik, Democratic Center, Challenge Movement and the Socialist Party of Ecuador is part of a government plan pushed by the Left Union with a view to the general elections of 2025 here.

However, there was no consensus on choosing electoral duos, although the deadline to define alliances culminates tomorrow.

We are not losing our hopes of finding a presidential pair (…) We have been working on unity and we have built a government plan on minimal agreements and coincidences. We do not lose the hope of continuing to work, said the national coordinator of leftist social organizations and progressivism, Samuel Lema.

When putting forwards the agreements, Lema called on a pact of non -aggression and respect for the decisions achieved.

The agreement includes the creation of a program and programmatic agreement for peace, security and protection of life and property in all its forms, as well as productive development, economic reactivation and the reduction of inequalities nationwide.

It also stresses food sovereignty, the protection of family and peasant agroecology and agriculture, the protection of migrants and transient people and refugees.

They also proposed the restoration of a foreign policy that favors the right to self -determination of peoples and the frontal fight against public and private corruption and tax evasion.

In February 2025, more than 13 million Ecuadorians will go the polls to elect the president, vice president, 151 legislators, and five Andean parliamentarians.
