Chinese President receives US National Security Advisor

Beijing, Aug 29 (Prensa Latina) Chinese President Xi Jinping received the United States National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, who is ending a three-day visit to China.

The president pointed out that in the face of the chaotic international situation, all nations must unite and cooperate, instead of dividing and confronting. “The people want to be open and progressive, not closed and regressive. As two important countries, China and the United States must be responsible to history, to the people and the world, and become a source of stability for world peace and a promoter of common development,” he told his interlocutor.

According to the Xinhua news agency, Xi assured that bilateral relations have experienced great changes, but Beijing’s commitment to the stable, healthy and sustainable development of ties has not.

The Chinese president advocated managing ties in accordance with mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation. “The position of firmly safeguarding China’s sovereignty, security and development interests has not changed, and efforts to continue the traditional friendship between the Chinese and American people have not changed,” he added.

The president expressed his hope that both nations will work together in a positive and rational manner, and called for considering each other’s development as an opportunity instead of a challenge and finding the right way for the two powers to get along.

Sullivan arrived in China on the 27th to hold a high-level dialogue with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, with whom he met twice during his stay in China.

The main topics were Taiwan and the One China principle, China’s rights in the South Sea, cooperation in non-confrontational areas such as climate change and artificial intelligence, as well as Beijing’s stance against the politicization of commercial exchanges.

Both sides focused on direct and in-depth communication on bilateral, regional and global issues.
