Responding to the challenge, the People’s Committee in the urban perimeter has issued a plan to prevent and control the spread of the disease, of which 20 cases were confirmed last week alone among 85 patients with measles symptoms.
Accordingly, local health care facilities should provide timely treatment to patients, so as to minimize severe cases and deaths, the agency told the city’s Health Department, which has been directed to report measles cases and outbreaks in accordance with regulations.
It also urged all agencies to conduct regular intersectoral inspections on epidemic prevention and control, as well as to strictly manage individuals and organizations that violate prevention rules, resulting in the spread of the disease.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease that can spread rapidly after an incubation period of seven to 21 days, eventually causing serious complications, such as pneumonia, encephalitis, otitis media, keratitis, diarrhea and even death.
