Dayana Minueses, from Ecuador, said in statements to Prensa Latina that collaboration between media outlets from Latin America and other nations is important to achieve development, joint goals and cultural exchange. “Countries must share, learn from each other, learn about what is happening in China and also discuss the possibilities of collaboration and investment in our nations,” she said.
Evgeny Zadorozhny, journalist for the Russian TASS news agency, pointed out that the Regional Cooperation Forum makes it possible to establish new links, deepen existing contacts and dialogue from diversity in search of mutual understanding. “This also influences economic and political collaboration because our media agendas are also part of the content of government decision-makers,” he said.
Diana Bermeo, head of programming for Ecuador’s Public Media, considered the exchange of experiences and knowledge as positive. In her opinion, the event helps to understand the current socioeconomic situation of each country and how the media face these situations from their respective news coverage. “It allows us to have an idea of the geopolitical scope of different economic initiatives, with China as one of the main actors worldwide due to its presence in various projects that are developed in Latin America,” she commented.
Bermeo added that Beijing is present in initiatives linked to transportation and the creation of infrastructure in Ecuador that are part of the Belt and Road Initiative.
For his part, Gabriel Campos, a journalist from El Salvador, pointed out that the forum allows exchanges with colleagues at an international level to learn how journalism flows at a global level. “I believe that the intention of the Forum is to improve relations between the media and is an opportunity to get to know China, as well as its intentions to foster new ties between all those present,” he noted.
More than 500 delegates from 75 countries discussed cooperation between media outlets in the face of information monopolies and in the midst of a complex international context.
The event was organized by the People’s Daily, the official organ of the Communist Party of China. The Forum brings together more than 218 members from about 100 nations of the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN).
