This was shown by the results of a survey conducted by the consulting firm Factum, according to which 68 percent of the population supports nighttime police raids on homes and other properties, while 27 percent were against.
The highest percentage of support for the plebiscite was recorded in the interior of the country, with 72 percent in favor, compared to 63 percent in the capital.
The majority of Uruguayans support nighttime raids amid concerns about recurring incidents, including involving firearms, which endanger public safety.
On the other hand, police unions consider that security conditions for such operations do not exist, at a time when, as they say, criminal groups and particularly those linked to drug trafficking have high firepower.
