Speaking at the 74th Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for the African continent, currently sessioning in Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo, the Minister pointed out the need for local immunogens and cost reduction if products become available closer to home.
Lutucuta highlighted vaccination as one of the pillars of primary health care and disease prevention, and thanked the Regional Committee for its support to Angola in bringing polio under control.
In her words, WHO is closely scrutinizing African countries affected by various epidemics, which have been gradually overcome thanks to adequate management, in response to challenges, she said.
Expounding on the topic, she considered that coordinated actions may as well help overcome the smallpox (Mpox) epidemic currently affecting the continent.
The meeting of the WHO Regional Committee is being held under the theme A World Mobilized for Health and Health for All.
