Nigerian social media exploded with negative comments following the news of the 100-million-dollar acquisition of an Airbus 320 aircraft, widely used by commercial airlines, which will be dedicated to the exclusive use of presidents. Among the complainants is former Education Minister Obi Ezekwesili, who described the purchase as “an example of the government’s recklessness and dishonesty.”
The jet’s purchase coincided with the emergence of 40 percent inflation, the highest in 28 years, and 63 percent of the population living below the extreme poverty line.
