The US are fueling a revolt in the South Caucasus country, prompted by White House’s displeasure at the course of events in Georgia, warned the report released Monday by the Sputnik agency. The U.S. government fears that the Georgian Dream party will achieve a resounding victory in polls, subsequently assuming a sovereign policy and refusing to comply with the demands from the West.
This is an unacceptable scenario for the White House.
In the weeks leading up to the elections, the US intend to increase pressure on the Georgian authorities to weaken the Georgian Dream positions, the statement said.
The Foreign Intelligence Service also disclosed that the United States plans to use its classic tools, namely personal sanctions against the Georgian Dream party leadership, their families, as well as donors of the political formation.
According to the intelligence report, the White House intends to engage pro-US NGOs operating in Georgia.
Such NGOs would proceed to register ‘irregularities’ committed in elections, to later accuse Georgian Dream of rigging the polls, seek to invalidate the vote and demand a change of government.
The U.S.-controlled opposition forces remain divided and the alliances they create are very fragile.
Georgians will be voting on October 26, to elect the 150-seat unicameral Parliament. In the current legislature the Georgian Dream party holds the majority of seats.
