The head of the UNE, Andres Quishpe, warned that crime has been hitting the educational facilities nationwide.
Likewise, Quishpe insisted on the creation of a school reinsertion plan and suggested that school supplies be provided free of charge “because many minors drop out of school as their parents lack the resources to cover these expenses,” he underscored.
Lately, the UNE revealed that workers in the sector will mobilize on August 30 to demand security in the next school year.
Quishpe detailed that teachers from all over the country will march to the Carondelet Palace (seat of the Executive) to further denounce inadequate resources in educational institutions, the lack of a school reinsertion plan and the deficit of teachers.
UNE has repeatedly warned that in the last few months the educational community has been affected by student suicides, teacher murders, a hike in robberies in educational spaces and sexual violence and extortion.
Similarly, teachers from the Ecuadorean provinces of Guayas, Manabi and Esmeraldas alerted that about 140 of their coworkers were extorted and threatened in the 2023-2024 school year, despite the militarization currently in force in the streets of the country.
