Colombia destroys lab yieldiing five tons of drugs

Bogota, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian Army reported today the controlled destruction of an illegal laboratory producing cocaine hydrochloride, in the municipality of Puerto Asis, the department of Putumayo, in southwestern Colombia.

The military involved in the operation found eight substructures, capable of yielding five tons of drugs per month, plus 688 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, 100 kilograms of coca base paste, more than one ton of solid inputs, five thousand gallons of liquid inputs, and other elements to process alkaloids were found, according to the source.

The laboratory, said the military, engaged in the different phases of processing coca base paste and the crystallization of cocaine hydrochloride, with an eye to export it abroad.

They added that the drug processing units belonged to Structure 48 of the Border Commandos, and that the operation prevented the monthly circulation of more than nine billion doses of this substance in the international illegal market.

In the same day the National Navy reported that two operations by its Caribbean Coast Guard Group had seized more than 600 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride intended to sell abroad at an approximate price of over 20 million dollars.

The first raid intercepted an Italian-flagged maritime transport cargo ship that was heading for Antioquia, in the northeast of Colombia.

Eighteen rectangular packages were found inside, similar to those used for drug trafficking, loaded with 450 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.

In a second maritime patrol and control operation, 151 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were seized, which were being transported on board a Go Fast type motor vessel, which was sailing 30 nautical miles from Isla Fuerte, in the area of the Gulf of Morrosquillo.
