Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian highlighted the country’s willingness to work with Africa in the implementation of other aid programs in connection with the upcoming Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC 2024).
The spokesman pointed out that the elimination of poverty is a mission shared by all humanity and a common desire of the African people.
He recalled that cooperation in the reduction of this scourge was key in the collaboration between China and Africa, from the implementation of the “Ten Cooperation Plan” to the “Nine Initiatives”.
Lin Jian detailed that, within the framework of the “Poverty Reduction and Agricultural Benefit” project, China implemented 47 agriculture-related projects, trained nearly 9,000 agricultural professionals and disseminated some 300 advanced techniques that benefited more than one million small farmers on the continent.
He also highlighted the introduction of Chinese technologies, such as mushroom cultivation and hybrid rice, which generated a significant increase in production and income for communities.
In addition, “China has invested in the construction of agricultural cooperation zones and agricultural product processing factories in Africa, which has increased the added value of local products,” he added.
According to the spokesman, the “One Hundred Companies, One Thousand Villages” program benefited more than 10,000 communities in Africa through the implementation of 320 social responsibility projects by companies from China.
The spokesman also highlighted the support to the industrialization process in the continent, which strengthened the capacity for autonomous economic development of African nations.
