Restriction on immigrants without a visa stood out in Brazil

Brasilia, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) The announcement by the Ministry of Justice to restrict the entry of immigrants without a visa stood out in Brazil in the week ending today.

Such a measure emerged after the Federal Police identified that the country had become a route for human trafficking networks.

According to investigations, the ease of requesting refuge in the South American giant would be attractive for organizations that commit international crimes.

In addition to this issue, the ministry noted that it is working to resolve the humanitarian crisis at the international airport of Guarulhos, in the state of Sao Paulo, where there are 481 foreigners detained awaiting the request for refuge.

“What we are going to do is to identify travelers who do not have an entry visa in the national territory and are in transit to other countries, but who do not have a real risk of persecution,” said the national secretary of Justice, Jean Uema, to the G1 portal.

He stressed that these people will not be admitted into Brazilian territory.

According to the police document, most of those who ask for refuge in Brazil have no motivations that justify such a condition.

In their entirety, the emigrants (originally from South Asia and Africa) have as their final objective to enter illegally into the United States or Canada.

“Brazil is becoming a route for smuggling immigrants and human trafficking operated by criminal organizations, our commitment is to interrupt these trafficking routes,” promised Uema.

Between January and June, more than eight thousand immigrants asked for refuge at the Guarulhos air terminal, confirmed official sources.
