Before, his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, gave signals about the possibility of ending the campaign and joining former president Trump, to avoid a victory for the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
In the last two months, Kennedy Jr.’s campaigning activities were almost non-existent, his poll numbers dropped and it was reported in the press that the environmental lawyer’s campaign had had contacts with the teams of Republican Trump and the Democrat, Kamala Harris.
The former president said on Tuesday that he would “certainly be willing” to evaluate Kennedy Jr. for a position in his administration if the independent candidate withdrew from the 2024 electoral race and supports him.
“I like him and I respect him (…) He’s a brilliant guy,” Trump told CNN during a stop in Michigan. He also said that he is “very intelligent” and that he has known him “for a long time.”
According to Trump, “I didn’t know that Kennedy was thinking of withdrawing, but if he is considering that, I would certainly be open to consider him,” he stressed.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who ran for president of the United States as a Democrat and then became an independent, is the nephew of assassinated President John F. Kennedy (1963) and the son of Robert F. Kennedy, who was running for president in 1968, when he was killed.
By supporting Trump, Kennedy Jr. completely breaks with family tradition.
