Protesters in Argentina against Milei’s cuts

Buenos Aires, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Members of the Piquetero Struggle Front and cooks from soup kitchens gathered today near the Ministry of Human Capital to denounce the cuts implemented by the Argentine government and their consequences for vulnerable sectors.

Under the slogan ¨100 pots against hunger¨, the protesters reached the intersection of 9 de Julio Avenue and Moreno, in this capital, and demanded the delivery of food to the institutions that serve the people most affected by the serious socioeconomic situation.

In addition, they demanded the increase of social programs, the release of people who participated in protests against executive policies and the cessation of judicial persecution of social organizations.

“In eight months, Javier Milei’s government has destroyed the rights of children, grandparents, workers and young people. The United Nations Children’s Fund has just announced that there are seven million poor children and one and a half million go to bed without dinner,” says a statement released by the Front.

In addition, it recalls that almost 60 percent of the population is below the poverty line and 10 million people are destitute.

It also warns of the numerous dismissals and thousands of layoffs expected before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the soup kitchens cannot respond to the growing needs of the population due to the government’s refusal to deliver food, even those that rot in official warehouses, the text points out.

In two months there were more than 120 raids on soup kitchens. What are they looking for? The crimes in this country are committed by those who carried out the flight of millions of dollars, the drug traffickers and those who make children disappear like Loan Peña in Corrientes, it said.

They are investigating the places where hunger is being fought and not the officials who hide food and generate hunger and unemployment, he adds.

The Front also advocates the execution of a progressive plan of struggle up to a general strike for fair wages and pensions.
