Cuban Women’s Federation celebrates its 64th anniversary

Havana, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Intending to make a decisive contribution to safeguarding the Revolution, defending socialism, and promoting sustainable prosperity for the nation, the Cuban Women's Federation (FMC) is celebrating its 64th anniversary on Friday.

Teresa Amarelle, general secretary of the FMC, which was founded in 1960 and develops policies and programs to achieve the full exercise of women’s equality in all spheres and social levels, made this remarks to Prensa Latina.

We celebrate this August 23 with the determination to overcome the obstacles imposed by the economic and financial blockade of the United States on Cuba, with dedication and devotion to economic and social tasks, Amarelle said.

On Thursday, the FMC general secretary participated with hundreds of Cuban women in a volunteer work organized at the Pararrayos Grassroots Business Unit, in the productive sector of Yabu, in Santa Clara.

Some 2,000 FMC women will gather at the Leoncio Vidal Park in that city this Friday to participate in the main celebration for the organization’s anniversary.

Attention to youth, bullying in schools, lack of sensitivity towards the LGTBIQ+ community, renovation of the communication system, and inclusion in employment, are some of the FMC’s challenges.
