FOCAC will take place under the main theme “Working together to promote modernization and build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.”
According to Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong, the meetings will deal with “Governance and administration”, “Industrialization and agricultural modernization”, “Peace and security” and “High-quality construction of the Belt and Road initiative”, which will “deeply reflect the demands and challenges of the current era, the common concerns and expectations of China and Africa regarding modern development, representing the main directions of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum in this new epoch,” he added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that, like other years, President Xi Jinping will deliver the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the summit on September 5th.
According to Chen, the topics of this edition will allow the parties to have a deeper exchange on China-Africa cooperation, which will result in strengthening communication and development consensus, while providing stronger impetus for construction of a high-level community of shared destiny between both parties.
FOCAC was established in 2000 as a platform to strengthen bilateral relations and since its creation it was the scene of important announcements by China, regarding the financing of projects on that continent.
