Braszil’s Lula pushes for faster release of medicines

President Lula da Silva pushes for faster release of medicines

Brasilia, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked Friday that medicines reach the local population sooner, as he inaugurated a factory of remedies for diabetes and obesity.

Speaking at the opening in Sao Paulo, Lula highlighted the country’s capacity to develop the pharmaceutical industry and requested that the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) speeds up the distribution of medicines.

“I came here to inaugurate and I am leaving with a demand…. It is necessary that ANVISA goes a little faster in approving existing requests, because it should not happen that people cannot buy medicine because ANVISA is not releasing them,” he said, pledging a solution would be found.

“When someone in ANVISA learns that some relative of theirs has died because they did not produce a remedy that could have been produced her, they will get the approval faster and better serve the interests of our country,” he assured.

On his speech at the new 13 million US dollar funded unit, located in the São Paulo municipality of Hortolândia, Lula announced that from 2023 to 2026, the federal Government foresees a joint investment of 57.4 billion reais (about US$ 10.6 billion) from the public sector and private initiative in the Health Economic-Industrial Complex.
