Ethiopia and Kenya strengthen efforts to fight terrorism

Addis Ababa, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) A Kenyan National Intelligence Service (NIS) delegation is visiting Ethiopia on Thursday to continue operations against leaders and militants of terrorist groups operating in the border region and Nairobi.

The group, led by NIS Director-General Noordin Mohamed Haji, arrived in this capital on Wednesday and was received by his Ethiopian counterpart from the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Redwan Hussein, to complete a work agenda during the week.

A NISS statement revealed that the two sides had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate on information sharings and other issues related to their duties.

Thanks to their cooperation, Ethiopian and Kenyan authorities and experts hold frequent meetings to assess their progress. The Nairobi delegation in Addis Ababa pursues the same objective by discussing common agendas in depth, the text stated.

Both institutions have been advising on how to thwart the Shene terrorist group’s activities that currently carry out violent actions, including abducting civilians, looting and destroying property, and obstructing people’s free movement, in the border regions and Kenya.

They are also implementing instructions to stop smuggling, illegal arms trafficking, and illegal mining by the extremists.
