Since Mpox was declared a public health threat by the World Health Organization (WHO) on August 14, preventive measures, such as enhancing surveillance at borders and selected areas, increasing laboratory capacity for diagnosis, and strengthening the expertise of health professionals, were implemented, Daba said.
Some 13 African countries have reported Mpox outbreaks and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) declared the disease a public health emergency of continental security (PHECS) in Africa.
