The Patricio Ballagas Trova House, located in Agramonte Park, in the heart of the Old City, hosted the meeting of UNEAC’s local members, who went beyond reveling to once again declare their role as artists who help forge a nation.
Armando Perez, chair of the organization in Camagüey, aired his pride of belonging to the organization when times are harder.
“Under the most difficult conditions, we have the responsibility to protect culture, which is what people demand from us,” said Pérez, a professor at the branch of the Higher Institute of Art in Camagüey.
This summer, many art and literature activists have defied all existing problems, travelling to the most remote places, without even thinking of being remunerated, in a show of love for our profession, he said as he mentioned the various cultural and educational projects promoted by the UNEAC in the territory.
On August 22, 1961, UNEAC was founded by late poet Nicolás Guillén, in a bid to bring together all artists and writers under de umbrella of the Cuban Revolution.
