Argentina’s APJBO association rejects “voluntary layoffs”

Buenos Aires, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) The Association of Official Banks' Hierarchical Personnel (APJBO) remains Thursday in a state of alert, rejecting the application by the Argentinian Government of a regime of “voluntary layoffs.”

On a press release, the organization accused the Executive of attacking in particular the Nation’s Bank (BNA) through the implementation of this type of actions to accelerate the layoffs of female employees at 58 years old, and of male employees aged 63 years.

Over 700 employees could be affected by this measure, without new workers coming to fill in their void posts. Adding to this figure are some 300 staff who retired, resigned or died since the onset of 2024, according to the document.

To APJBO this is a “sinister mechanism” applied to reduce personnel, that will also make employees nationwide attempt to relocate as the try to fill in the vacancies.

Likewise, the enforcement of this measure will bring about a heavier workload for active workers, an less effective results in daily performance, as they try to take on other’s tasks.

“We believe that this plan is not aimed at reducing expenses, since the BNA continues to generate important profits, but rather it is a strategy to attack it, to make it suffer for its daily performance and eventually transform it into a corporation,” the document states.
