Sareis Pineda, a spokeswoman for the Palacio de las Garzas (Herons’ Palace), the seat of the Executive Branch, announced that Chaves will be the first president to be invited by Mulino for a State meeting to discuss issues related to transportation, trade, and agriculture.
Upon his arrival, the Costa Rican head of State and his delegation will be received by Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha. The high-level meeting will be held on Friday.
On July 1, Chaves attended Mulino’s inauguration ceremony as President of Panama, while the current president, still as a presidential candidate, visited San Jose on April 18, in what the Costa Rican Government described as a courtesy audience.
In October 2023, Chaves made an official visit to Panama to analyze the crisis of irregular travelers who entered through the Darien jungle on their way to the United States.
Chaves signed a decree in 2023 declaring the irregular migration crisis as a National Emergency, which allows it to take administrative, operational, and economic measures and speed up procedures to support the work by institutions related to the protection of families already at the borders.
