The president announced on Tuesday there are 48,000 prisoners in the trust phase -not gang members- who are trained in different trades so that they can then give back to society part of the damage caused with their labor.
This action is part of the program of the General Directorate of Penitentiary Centers “Cero Ocio”, which provides training opportunities for inmates in the Santa Ana Industrial Prison Complex in carpentry, metal structures, masonry, agricultural activities, mechanics, among other trades, reported Diario El Salvador.
Meanwhile, newspaper El Mundo emphasized that the governor reiterated that the gang members will not be released from prison.
In the video, shared on Tuesday at 7:01 p.m. (local time), you can see a group of men deprived of liberty wearing t-shirts of the General Directorate of Penitentiary Centers (DGCP) doing carpentry work.
The gang members will spend their entire lives in prison. But criminals can receive training and pay off their debt to society. We have already started with the first 48,000,” Bukele stated in the material.
