Argentine union leader announces general strike

Buenos Aires, Aug 21 (Prensa Latina) Rodolfo Aguiar, general secretary of the Argentine State Workers' Association (ATE), stated on Wednesday that the national day of struggle started this morning is the first step toward a new general strike against the Argentine Government's policies.

In statements to AM 750 radio station, the union leader urged to strengthen the protests against “an economic program that destroys everyone’s life.”

The plan designed by the Executive is not working. It is failing. President Javier Milei has run out of excuses. After months of complaining about the lack of tools, it turns out that with the approved Basic Law, the May Pact, and the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) 70/23, the crisis is getting worse. We came out of a recession to fall into a depression, and a million children go to bed without dinner,” he said.

ATE and more than 60 organizations are participating in a national day of action against DNU 70/23, which modifies or eliminates more than 300 regulations and expands the powers delegated on Milei.
