Angola assists over one million working families

Luanda, Aug 21 (Prensa Latina) The Angolan Government is assisting almost 1.2 million families by providing them with technical support to produce food, the Council of the Republic informed on Wednesday.

A meeting of the Council disclosed here that 7,000 rural schools had provided relevant training to improve agricultural production.

Headed by the President João Lourenço, the Council learned that some 600,000 people in the provinces of Cunene, Huíla and Namibe have benefited from the Program for Strengthening Resilience and Food and Nutritional Security in Angola (FRESAN).

As part of such efforts, 1.6 million households received cash transfers and 32,000 families got basic food baskets, in addition access to financing through Community Funds for agricultural cooperatives and the institutionalization of the Agricultural Campaign Credit.

Other programs include the Guaranteed Minimum Price, to favor national production, in addition to advancing in the strengthening of the guarantee system for access to commercial credit, through the Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) and sovereign guarantees.

The Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA) has played an important role in the area of light agricultural mechanization, according to staff attending the meeting

In Lourenço’s words, the Government’s policies are aimed at stimulating domestic food production and reducing imports of what can be produced locally.
