Speaking to AM 750 radio station, Palazzo, general secretary of the Banking Association, chastised the Government for refusing to give details on five registered shipments of gold, despite his inquiries through the appropriate channels.
“They are reluctant to have their proceedings scrutinized, as if we were in the hands of an owner of absolute truth. Someone who hides in from secrecy to promote measures that undermine institutionality”, he said.
“The gold reserves of a country are the solid basis for its currency. I am not sure whether to use the word plunder, but this is an extreme action that is sending the wrong message to investors,” he added.
In the last few weeks Palazzo forwarded several requests to the president of the BCRA, Santiago Bausili, to gain precise, detailed and well-founded data on operations of this type, as well as their objectives and compliance with established norms.
PaIazzo had also asked if the total figure already exceeds one billion dollars.
