This third meeting continues the previous one, which also took place in Luanda, in which both parties agreed to a ceasefire in force since August 4th.
On this occasion, the meeting will focus on the analysis of the peace agreement proposal, presented by the Angolan president, João Lourenço, to his counterparts from Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and from the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi.
Lourenço handed to Kagame the proposal during talks held on August 11th before the inauguration ceremony held in Kigali; and met with Tshisekedi the next day during a brief working visit to Kinshasa.
The meeting “should essentially address the proposal for lasting peace presented to the parties, with the aim of reaching a common understanding on a negotiated and peaceful solution to the conflict that prevails in the eastern region of the DRC,” said a statement from the Angolan Presidency.
Since midnight on August 4th, a ceasefire agreement between the two countries has been in force, agreed on July 30th under Angola’s mediation.
