According to the Le Nouvelliste daily, the renewal of the State of Emergency is a clear sign that nothing has changed since the establishment of the Presidential Transitional Council and the interim Government headed by Prime Minister Garry Conille.
While criminals go rampant, the police are awaiting reinforcements and equipment, with no support from the Kenyan forces who came in June to allegedly defeat the armed groups.
“It is extremely important that the commitments made by partners and neighboring countries are implemented as quickly as possible,” Conille insisted.
Such scenario of terror has eroded the population’s patience, as demonstrated by a recent massive protest, which the police promptly broke up by launching tear gas canisters.
