The meeting, taking place at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on August 19-22, aims to review and discuss the progress made in the implementation of the group’s work program for 2024-2025, the Ethiopian News Agency reported.
Representatives from those countries, relevant organizations such as the secretariats of the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), regional centers and networks, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its agencies and regional centers and networks focus their discussions on supporting the least developed countries.
In her welcoming remarks, Ethiopia’s Minister of State for Planning and Development, Seyoum Mekonnen, highlighted the objective of the meeting, which coincides with the national tree planting campaign under the Green Legacy Initiative, which expects to plant more than 600 million tree seedlings in a single day, on August 23.
Also attending the meeting are ECA Deputy Executive Secretary Antonio Pedro, Chair of the LDC Expert Group Gabriel Kapaka, and Paul Desanker of the Secretariat of the UNFCCC.
