Energy prices in Latin America and the Caribbean continue to decline

Quito, Aug 20 (Prensa Latina) The Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) reported today that monthly energy inflation in the region has maintained a downward trend for the fourth consecutive month.

According to a report released this Tuesday on the prices of that sector, in June 2024 regional energy inflation reached a value of 0.06 percent and the annual rate 2.29 percent.

Of the 20 countries analyzed, 14 have experienced a drop in this indicator, and since October 2022, energy prices in Latin America are below those of the regional economy as a whole, Olade said.

The entity compared this data with that of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and warned that 24 countries in that group have also had a drop in energy prices.

Last May, the Secretary General of Olade, Andrés Rebolledo, referred to the evolution of costs during the last two years, where until mid-2022 there was a strong inflation that reached 18.41 percent, and then there was a sustained decline.

Olade is a public and intergovernmental cooperation, coordination and technical advisory body that seeks to promote the integration, conservation, rational use, commercialization and defense of the energy resources of this geographic area.
