Russia warns of consequences if Poland intercepts its missiles

Moscow, Aug 19 (Prensa Latina) If Poland, in a fit of adventure, tries to intercept Russian missiles over the territory of Ukraine, the response will be appropriate, said today the director for Europe of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Oleg Tiapkin.

The diplomat stressed that Russia repeatedly presented warnings to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries to dissuade them from direct involvement in the fighting on the side of the Ukrainian government.

Both Warsaw and NATO are well aware of our position, Tiapkin added in statements to the Sputnik news agency.

Previously, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski assured that his government was considering shooting down Russian missiles in Ukraine, as Kiev asked NATO to do.

At the end of June, several French media claimed that Kiev was pushing its allies in Europe to establish a no-fly zone in western Ukraine by stationing anti-aircraft batteries in Poland and Romania, two nations that are members of the U.S.-led war bloc.

Since February 24, 2022, Russia has been carrying out a special military operation in Ukraine whose objectives, according to President Vladimir Putin, are to protect the population from genocide by the current authorities in Kiev.

It is also aimed at tackling the national security risks posed by NATO’s eastward advance.
