Israel’s demolition strategy in East Jerusalem denounced

Ramallah, Aug 19 (Prensa Latina) Israel has demolished 187 structures in the occupied area of East Jerusalem since the beginning of the current cycle of violence, in October 2023, a Palestinian NGO denounced on Monday.

The Civil Coalition for the Defense of Palestinian Rights in Jerusalem indicated in a statement that that total consists of 133 homes and the rest are commercial and agricultural facilities.

According to the non-governmental organization, this policy has caused the displacement of more than 500 Palestinians.

In the last ten months, Jerusalem has witnessed an unprecedented escalation in Israel’s violations as the world turns its gaze to the Gaza Strip, he stressed.

In this regard, the NGO has criticized the systematic closures of the city, plans to expand Jewish settlements, the demolition of Arab structures and attacks on Christian and Muslim religious sites.

These apartheid-like policies violate the most basic rules of human rights, threaten Palestinians’ existence in their land and do not take into account international rules and laws, the coalition warned.

Earlier this month, Israel’s NGO Ir Amin stated that occupation authorities have demolished 155 Palestinian structures and 112 apartments in East Jerusalem since the beginning of the year.

Recently, Palestinian researcher Fakhri Abu Diab revealed Israel’s new plan to Judaize East Jerusalem, which includes the demolition of Arab homes as well as the confiscation of land and property in the city.

In an interview with the Safa news agency, the Jerusalem affairs specialist criticized the project called “Reviving Jewish Heritage,” promoted by the Ministry of Heritage.

Khalil Al-Tafakji accused Israel of planning a project to surround that occupied area by expanding a block of colonies, which will house 100,000 other Jews in the next four years.
