At a high-level meeting to review national preparedness, P.K. Mishra, principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was informed that the risk of a major outbreak with sustained transmission is low, according to the local assessment.
Directors of the Ministry of Health and Welfare reported that prevention measures were taken in the last week after a meeting of experts from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on August 12 to assess the risk for India.
They stated that the Communicable Disease Alert on Mpox, issued by the NCDC, was updated, and instructions were issued to health teams at international airports.
They reported that there was a videoconference with more than 200 participants with authorities from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program units of the territories and ports of entry.
Mishra directed to improve surveillance and take effective measures for rapid detection of cases and preparation of testing laboratory network for early diagnosis.
